Description

This charming remodeled home is located in the heart of a picturesque village in rural Alsace.  The small private garden is perfect for napping or sunbathing.

The light colors and clean lines of the interior emphasize space and comfort, making  visitors feel right at home.  Tall windows, a comfortable couch and chairs add to your sense of comfort.  The light-filled interior is organized around a large woodstove with banquettes for cold winter nights. The south-facing family room opens onto the eating nook, the library, and the well-equipped kitchen with bar.  There are two good-sized bedrooms; one with a double bed, and the other with a double and a single bed, both rooms are immaculate.  There is a small, nicely equipped open kitchen and a modern bathroom with tub and hand-held shower and a separate toilet.

The pretty garden is completely enclosed. A lime tree and a catalpa offer generous shade in the summer, while the terrace allows you to sunbathe all year long, taking advantage of this area's unique and wonderful microclimate.

The property is surrounded by grapevines and a forest of acacias and chestnuts whose perfumes come into the kitchen in June.  There is a garden fireplace in the stone wall made from Vosges sandstone, an eating nook and a hammock perfect for a siesta on one side, and chairs for sunbathing on the other side. You can park your car and forget it for a week because walking paths begin at the house and there are bicycles at your disposal. If it rains, you can enjoy the  books and games and TV/DVD player.  The owners live next door and are happy to give you a tour of their winery and suggest other wineries to visit in the region.

Nearby Attractions

The small town of Katzenthal, nestled in a small valley on the Route des Vins d'Alsace, benefits from a wonderful microclimate which allows for the cultivation of some of Alsace's famous Grand Cru wines. One of these, Wineck -Schlossberg, is named for the ruined château that sits above Katzenthal on a rocky peak. Inside the dungeon, there is an archeological museum detailing the history of the c.1300 château. The nearest city to Katzenthal is Colmar, considered to be the capital of the Alsatian wine region. Seated on the Lauch river, sunny Colmar is a delight to visit, with a cityscape that has been extremely well preserved, escaping much of the destruction from the wars of the past several centuries.
