Traditional village house with innovative udpated design

Riquewihr, Colmar

Description Amenities In the area Map Reviews
Constructed in the 16th century along the original walls of the historic wine village of Riquewihr, the house was completely renovated in 1990 and again in 2006 to lovingly preserve the best of its centuries old features. Owned by a prominent local winemaker, the house contains myriad hints of its winemaking past. With ancient wood beamed ceilings, whitewashed half-timbered walls, quarry stone walls, and exposed timber-frame beams, the house emanates a warm and welcoming ambiance. Located on a quiet, side street in the heart of the lively village, there are markets, bakeries, restaurants, bistros and artisan shops. A play area for children and walking and bicycle paths are steps from the house.

Perfectly suited for a large family or group of friends, the house offers both the privacy of six separate suites and common areas for sharing good times together. The terrace, a small courtyard, the eat-in kitchen with its large dining table and the spacious living room are all on the ground floor. The large communal kitchen, sitting room and dining area all open to the sunny terrace with BBQ and outdoor dining area. The fully equipped kitchen has a range with oven, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer, and all the necessary appliances, dishes, and cookware. The sitting room includes two sofas, several upholstered armchairs, a round wooden table, television, and DVD player. The open dining room can accommodate a group of up to eighteen guests. Also on the ground floor, there is a cozy two-bedroom suite. Once the winery's pressroom, “Le Pressoir”, both bedrooms are furnished with double beds, and share a recently renovated bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet.
The entire second floor is arranged as a spacious one-bedroom suite with a double bed and a separate living/dining area that includes a small alcove area with bunk bed. The living area opens to the "summer kitchen" with barbeque on a sunny terrace that overlooks the main level terrace. The bathroom on this level has shower, washbasin and toilet.

Up another flight of stairs, on the third floor, American, are two more suites. One has a bedroom with double bed, sitting area, kitchenette, and shower room with toilet and washbasin. The second, smaller suite on this floor also has a sleeping area with double bed, a kitchenette, sitting area, and a shower room with toilet and washbasin.

The attic, with two independent suites, has one with a bedroom with double bed and a sitting room with sofa bed. The second suite has two twin beds and also accommodates
two persons in the living area. Each of these attic suites has its own bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet. The larger of the two includes a small kitchenette.

Riquewihr, a lively fortified village dating from Medieval times, is designated as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages of France”. Nestled within miles of vineyards, the old town is surrounded by well-preserved 13th century walls with impressive gateways and towers, magnificent 16th century facades, and cobbled streets lined with all manner of shops. The village features several well-marked access points to walking paths through hillside vineyards. Riquewihr has all the necessary basic amenities, from food markets to art galleries, and numerous good restaurants. The property owners can arrange all kinds of activities for you, including winery tours, hiking, cycling, canoeing, hang gliding, old-fashioned horse drawn carriage rides, and guided tours of the village. Alsace is a cheerful region, dotted with picturesque villages at the foot of hills where every inch is covered with precious, meticulously tended vineyards.

Neighboring Kientzheim is home to an informative wine museum. Among several interesting and worthwhile local walks, one will take you through the forest to the Auberge St Alexis for a superb lunch; another follows the path through the grand cru vineyards to Hunawihr and its picturesque small church.

"L’Alsacienne" offers a fantastic opportunity to discover this unique region and its world famous wines while living in the heart of an authentic and picturesque walled village.

General Location Map

The welcoming could not have been better. We were welcomed warmly and we were explained all that we should know with great details. All the information given to us was very useful. We also loved the wine tasting tour. La Maison Bleue, its location, its original décor was fanstastic, better Although the kitchen is a bit small, I managed and we enjoyed numerous good communal meals on the terrace outside and in the lovely dining room. I really have no complaints nor do all our 13 guests. Au contraire, this vacation was for us all went beyond our expectation. I want to take the opportunity then to thank you in organizing this and my gracious thanks for the owner family whose taste, flair and vision have allowed the success of this adventure.
