Description

Situated on a Normandy coast farm, Ferme de Vacqueville provides a peaceful country setting in close proximity to the sea and the famous landing beaches. The owners also run a Bed and Breakfast in the main farmhouse on the same property.

On the ground floor of this charming restored stone farm building, there is a  pleasant open sitting/dining area with large fireplace, several comfortable armchairs, and round dining table with chairs. The adjacent open kitchen is equipped with two electric burners, electric oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and washing machine. The main bedroom is on this floor and includes a double bed and sofa.  A pleasant updated bathroom with shower and toilet is nearby.

Up the wood staircase, there is an open mezzanine level with two twin beds that can be brought together to use as a queen size bed.

Linen provided. No telephone at the unit but owners’ phone available across the courtyard.

Nearby Attractions

Located on the coast near the historical town of Bayeux, this 18th century farmhouse in the hamlet of Vacqueville on a dairy farm offers direct access from the farm to the landing site, Omaha Beach, on a coastal hiking trail. The beach itself is a striking silent memorial to the event. Nearby attractions include a tennis court, mini-golf, and 27 hole golf course.

That part of the coast, sometimes called "Côte de Nacre", is now better known as the site of the WWII landings of Allied Forces in 1944, Operation Overlord. There are British, German and American cemeteries and war museums at Bayeux, Caen, Cherbourg and Sainte-Mére Eglise — a fascinating "Musée des Troupes Aéroportées". Bayeux is a lovely old town with pedestrian streets whose 17th and 19th century buildings and churches escaped destruction during WWII. The Bayeux Tapestry recounting the Invasion of England by William the Conqueror is a must.
