Description

Situated in a relaxed pastoral setting at the end of a quiet lane, this lovely renovated “mas” shares land with a large garden, swimming pool, and wooded hills. Once a farmhouse and sheep barn dating back to the mid 18th century, the home retains its original charm and quality with thick stone walls, exposed wood beams, and two large stone fireplaces, all while appealing to the contemporary tastes of our guests. Three dining terraces with varying orientations allow one to avoid excessive heat, even in the middle of a hot Mediterranean summer. Ideally situated above Nice, between the mountains and the sea, La Sauvagie is two miles from the town of Grasse, reknowned for its perfume houses and cultivation of flowers.

Décor throughout the three-story house is tasteful and uncluttered, featuring natural building materials. The ground floor has a sitting room furnished with a "conversation circle" of sofas and armchairs poised around a large Provençal style fireplace. The elegant dining room, comfortably seating eight, opens through French doors to a wide southeast terrace. Here there is a century-old sweetly scented linden tree and views of the old town of Grasse. Back indoors, the spacious country kitchen has a marble counter, small pantry, and French doors to the garden on the west side of the house. New appliances include a dishwasher, washing machine, two refrigerators, electric range and oven. Also on this floor is a shower room with toilet decorated with Moroccan tile.

On the second floor, there is a second sitting room with another large fireplace that opens to a small terrace. Of the three bedrooms on the second floor, one of them has a queen size bed, the other a double bed and the third has twin beds. This floor includes a full bathroom with tub and toilet, a shower room, and a separate toilet.

The third floor features yet another large sitting/entertainment room equipped with sofas, TV and DVD player.  On this floor there is a comfortable fourth bedroom with double bed and beautiful views over Grasse.

Nearby Attractions

The old town of Grasse has narrow streets that wind through archways between 17th and 18th century buildings and open onto town squares. Its 500 years at the center of the traditional perfume-making industry are explored in the “Musée des Parfums”. Also of interest is the Cathedral Notre Dame du Puy with paintings by Rubens, outdoor markets, pottery shops, and shops with Provençal fabrics and “santons”, the traditional nativity scene figures. Summertime is lively with festivals and concerts. About 1.25 miles away is the picturesque perched village of Cabris where you can enjoy panoramic views from the top of the village next to the 17th-century church Notre Dame de l’Assomption. For a real treat, enjoy the view with a meal at the family run restaurant, “Auberge du Château”. Going down into the old medieval village, you'll find picturesque narrow streets with stone steps, hidden alcoves, and arched passageways. Nearby, you can enjoy golf at “Claux d’Amic”, hiking trails, horseback riding, tennis, and the many Mediterranean beaches. Antibes has an interesting Picasso museum. Grasse is about 12.5 miles from Cannes and 32 miles from Nice.

The home was everything you said it would be.
The owners were kind and respectful. They made us feel like family. Photos on the web do not do this place justice.  I have told all my friends about you.

Sincerely,

John Michael Curley
