This delightful old stone house, perfect for relaxed vacations, is built in the style of the ancient farmhouses typical of Provence.  Attractive and well maintained, its rustic foundations include exposed beams and arched doorways throughout. Surrounded by apricot orchards and verdant farmland, it has both the pleasure of panoramic country views and the privacy of being tenderly secluded in nature.

The first floor boasts an easy, open layout, with the main sitting area opening directly to the pool patio and gardens through French doors. Leather armchairs and sofas and solid wood antique furnishings are both comfortable and practical for families with children. Tile floors throughout.
A partial wall separates the living and dining areas from the kitchen, allowing for easy interaction between guests in all the rooms.  The corner kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator/freezer, four-burner stove, microwave, double sink, dishwasher, and stainless steel prep table. On the other end of the ground floor, there is a pleasant family room, serving as both TV room and bedroom, with a comfortable sofa bed and two narrow single beds. French doors open to the outdoors. The modern bathroom on this floor has a shower stall, washbasin, and toilet.  Across the hall, there is a clean and convenient laundry room with a washing machine and ironing equipment.

From the living room, a curved stone staircase brings guests upstairs to the three bedrooms, equipped with quality bedding and windows overooking the Alpilles mountains and woods. One bedroom has a queen size bed, one a double bed and a crib, and the third, a double bed. The pleasant tiled bathroom has a toilet, full-size tub with handheld shower, and washbasin.

Located at foot of the Alpilles mountain range near Arles, St. Rémy-de-Provence and les Baux. Half a mile away, the picturesque, traditional provençal village of Eygalières features historic castle ramparts, a quaint village square with church, and several good bakeries, cafés, and restaurants. The local tree-lined roads were inspiration for many of Van Gogh’s paintings of the area. The lovely town of St. Rémy was built on an archaeological site and is rich in Roman ruins as well as stately hôtels particuliers, former mansions now converted into elegant museums and galleries. Nearby Arles is also home to many ancient ruins, including a beautifully preserved Roman Amphitheater.

This was my first experience with renting a house, instead of staying in a hotel, on vacation and it was completely delightful. Madam Jeanne was so lovely and warm and the location was stunningly beautiful. I loved getting to know my "neighbors" and for a brief time, becoming part of the village.
