Description
Situated in a relaxing pastoral setting at the end of a quiet lane, this lovely renovated “mas” is surrounded by expansive grounds with a large garden, swimming pool, and wooded hills. Once a farmhouse and sheep barn dating from the mid 18th century, it retains its original character and charm with thick stonewalls, ancient wood beams, and two large stone fireplaces. Three terraces with varying orientations allow one to avoid excessive heat, even in the middle of a hot summer. Ideally situated above Nice, between mountains and the sea, it is two miles from the center of Grasse, renowned for its perfume and lavender.
The décor throughout is natural and tasteful, featuring old and new wood, glass, wrought iron, and stone. Combining modern amenities with yesteryear’s charm, the ground floor of this three-story house has a sitting room with a large Provencal style fireplace, conversation circle, dining room, veranda, and French doors opening to a spacious SE terrace. Here there is a century old sweetly scented linden tree and views of the old town of Grasse. The country kitchen has a marble counter, small pantry, and door to the garden on the west side of the house. The all-new appliances include a dishwasher, washing machine, two refrigerators, and a range. Also on this floor, is a shower room with toilet decorated with Moroccan style tile.
On the second floor, there is a second sitting room with another large fireplace that opens to a small terrace. Of the three bedrooms on the second floor, one of them has a queen size bed, the other a double bed and the third has twin beds. There is a full bathroom with tub and toilet, a shower room, and a separate toilet, all on this floor.
The third floor features another large sitting room with TV, DVD player has a beautiful view over Grasse. There is also a comfortable fourth bedroom with double bed.
Nearby Attractions
The old town of Grasse has narrow streets that wind between 17th and 18th century buildings, through archways, and open onto town squares. It’s 500 years as the center for the perfume making is explored in the “Musée des Parfums”. Also of interest is the Cathedral Notre Dame du Puy with paintings by Rubens, outdoor markets, pottery shops, and shops with Provencal fabrics and “santons”, the traditional nativity scene figures. The summer is lively with festivals and concerts. About 1.25 miles away is the picturesque perched village of Cabris where you can enjoy panoramic views from the top of the village next to the 17th-century church Notre Dame de l’Assomption. For a real treat, enjoy the view with a meal at the family run restaurant, “Auberge du Chateau”. Going down into the old village dating form mediaeval times, picturesque narrow streets feature stone steps, hidden alcoves, and arched passageways. In the area, you can enjoy golf at “Claux d’Amic”, hiking trails, horseback riding, tennis, and the many Mediterranean beaches. Nearby Antibes has an interesting Musée Picasso. Grasse is about 12.5 miles from Cannes and 32 miles from Nice.
