Description
This spacious apartment occupies the uppermost floor of a large private property in the winding hills high above Nice and the Mediterranean. The house, regal and pretty in rose-colored stucco with green shutters and attractive wrought-iron details, is nestled in lush gardens, with an abundance of olive trees, roses, cacti, palms and pines.
Accessible from a stone stairwell that curves around the house, the apartment features a long balcony and private terrace offering spectacular, expansive views of Nice and the sea to the south and the Alpes Maritimes rising above the Mediterranean to the north. Charming interior details such as rustic paint washes and delicate murals, walls draped in fun printed fabrics, high ceilings with old wood beams, and dark carved-wood doors give the house an antique and cozy feel.
The living room is furnished with couch, antique armchairs, TV, CD and DVD player. The adjacent dining area, with room at the table to seat eight, has sliding glass doors that open onto the view balcony and overlook the beautiful curved pool and downstairs terrace. A side doorway from the dining room opens out to a private covered terrace with a built-in stucco barbecue grill and plenty of space to enjoy meals al fresco. Indoors, the tiled kitchen has gas range, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Kitchen windows overlook the entry gardens and terrace. Small separate "salle d'eau" with toilet. Washing machine.
Of the two smaller bedrooms, one has a queen-sized bed and the other, perfect for children, has a single bed and a ladder up to a loft furnished with another single mattress. Each bedroom has a view either of the sea or of the property's pretty gardens. The lovely master bedroom suite, with French doors to the terrace, is appointed with a queen sized bed, wood table and chairs and large comfortable armchairs. The master bathroom has a tub/shower, sink, toilet and washing machine and the other bathroom has a tub/shower, sink and toilet.
Nearby Attractions
Located off the Moyenne Corniche, the picturesque serpentine road that winds above the Mediterranean from Nice towards Italy, the property is a ten to fifteen minute drive from the center of Nice and just outside the beautiful perched town of Villefranche-sur-Mer.
In Nice, one can experience the vibrancy of a thriving metropolis as well as the charm of an ancient town; first established by the ancient Greeks, it has a wonderful old district for ambling at leisure and discovering markets, sweet shops and wonderful restaurants. Diners will enjoy trying local specialities such as Salade Niçoise, pissadilière, pan bagnat or fresh gelato. There are excellent museums to be discovered as well: the Musée Matisse in the hills outside of the center of town features some of the artist's most impressive paper cutouts, and the Musée Chagall, a little further, is a phenomenal space in which to experience Chagall's large-scale masterworks.
With sandy beaches and a lovely harbor tucked into an alcove sheltered by forested hills, Villefranche-sur-Mer has great cafés and restaurants dotting the waterfront and hidden in its steep ancient streets and stairwells. Other nearby sights to visit are St. Jean Cap-Ferrat, with its peninsula offering beautiful strolls through exotic gardens and sumptuous villa neighborhoods, and Èze, with its uncommonly good vantage points from which to admire the gorgeous Mediterranean blue. Monaco and the Italian border are a half-hour to forty-five minutes' drive way.
