Description
This Provençal Bastide is tucked away on half an acre of lush private land, surrounded by olive trees and Mediterranean plants and flowers. With stunning views of the sea and surrounding forested hills, here is an exquisite vacation retreat, ideal for families and large groups.
With large oval-shaped windows, sweeping contours and a thatched tile roof typical of Mediterranean style, the house boasts an elegant design both traditional and modern. Outdoors there is a large tiled pool and sprawling patio with comfortable deck furniture. The adjoining pool house has a charming summer kitchen area outfitted with a small and a large dining table, barbecue, large chimney, ceramic hotplates, dishwasher, full-size refrigerator, espresso machine, large fan and separate WC.
Encircled by a terrace of rustic stone tiles, the house has an airy and comfortable layout, comprising three stories. The main floor features a sunken sitting room with large fireplace, circular banquette seating and large windows letting in plenty of light. Through a doorway one enters the diningroom, with a table seating eight and French doors leading out to the patio. The charming, bright kitchen is equipped with full oven, dishwasher, microwave and full-sized refrigerator/freezer. This floor has two bedrooms, both with queen-sized beds, one of which has an adjoining bathroom and French doors leading out to the patio. Also on this floor is an independent WC. Down one flight of stairs is another bedroom with a queen bed and full bath with a private entrance to the patio and swimming pool. Upstairs there are three more bedrooms, two of which have queen beds and one that works well as a children’s room, with two twin beds. One of the bedrooms has a bathroom with shower and WC and its own patio access. This floor also has an independent WC with shower.
Nearby Attractions
Less than five miles away is the lovely town of Grasse. At 350 meters above sea level, Grasse has a pleasant microclimate conducive to delicate flower cultivation, hence it's status as the “perfume capital of the world”. Local perfume factories such as Fragonard and Gallimard offer free tours in English as well as visits of their fragrant flower gardens. The Musée International de la Perfumerie offers a fascinating glimpse into the history and culture of perfume. In late spring, the annual Exhibition of Roses is a delight to visit, featuring hundreds of varieties of roses from all over the world.
Also a short drive away is the village of Valbonne, home to one of Europe’s leading Technology centers, Sophia Antipolis. To the north, the Gorges du Loup features gorgeous views of waterfalls from the limestone rocks above the Loup River, and picturesque perched villages such as Gourdon and Tourrette-sur-Loup. The nearby hill village of St. Paul-de-Vence is well-known as a draw to artists, and there are excellent galleries, museums and studios open to visitation.
