Description
Located on the grounds of Château La Bégude at the foot of Montagne Sainte Victoire, this charming cottage offers truly breathtaking mountain views. Recently built to blend with in the local building style, it is located about a half a mile from the main château, down a long private drive. Now an active, prestigious winery with a rich historical background, it once served as a residence for the Knights Templar and as a stagecoach inn at the time of Louis XIV. The cottage with terrace is completely private and secluded, situated near open fields and the vineyards.
Built for relaxed comfort, the open main room has a sloped ceiling with large rustic wood beams and tiled floor. It is furnished with a sitting area with sofa bed, several upholstered chairs, a working fireplace, and a dining area with table seating six. The kitchen has been carefully sited to give full mountain views through the large arched window in front of the sink. With tiled counters and floor, large refrigerator, four burner cook top, wall oven, washing machine, and breakfast table, it is a very pleasant space for preparing or eating meals.
Each of the two bedrooms has tiled floors and is comfortably furnished with a double bed. The bathroom has decorative wall tiles, a tile floor, tub with partial shower enclosure, sink and toilet. There is a convenient separate toilet room.
Guests have the use of a fenced 16x16 non-chlorine swimming pool near the main Château.
Nearby Attractions
The Château, vineyard, and cottage are centrally located in the sought-after area near Aix-en-Provence, about five miles or approximately a twelve-minute drive away. Between September and mid-October, one can observe the busy activity of a grape harvest. Tours of the many local wineries are available upon request. Rousset, a village with stores and cafés, is a half-mile walk away, starting from the main house. The nearby medieval village of Trets has historic sites dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, including ramparts and narrow winding streets lined with historic stone buildings. Aix-en-Provence is known for its colorful local flower market, myriad fountains, and lovely main Avenue Mirabeau, lined with trees and 17th and 18th century buildings. Thirty-five minute drive to Mediterranean beaches.

We had a great time. This cottage provided a break from our daily lives. We got to wake up to a view of the vines and the sun coming up over the mountain. The mountain has a personality of its own.
