Charming, traditional Alsatian village apartment

Colmar, Eguisheim

Dating from 1686, this delightful and carefully restored apartment is on the top floor of a traditional Alsatian house built into the ramparts of the small town of Eguisheim. The entrance to the apartment is located off a quiet pedestrian alleyway.

Ancient wood beamed ceilings, half timbered walls and rustic wood floors help create the traditional ambiance of this approximately 700 sq. ft. apartment. The main sitting room is very cheerful with plastered walls painted in the typical blue and red colors of Alsatian prints and antique furniture and accessories including a wooden sleigh bed style single bed. True to its historic roots, there is a bright blue double bed sleeping alcove with drapes that can be pulled for privacy. The well equipped open kitchen, also with cheerful red and blue decorative painting, has white tile counter, traditional style wood cabinets, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, TV and radio.

Charming bedroom has lovely light green painted bedstead, exposed wood beam ceiling, and period bedside tables. Independent bathroom with shower.

This quaint town, in the heart of Alsace, is constructed within fortresses originating in the thirteen century. Surrounded by scenic vineyards, it has picturesque streets lined with half-timbered houses, numerous inviting courtyards, and even an octagonal feudal castle. Located alongside the famous Alsatian wine road at the foot of the Vosges Mountains, Eguisheim is also a significant wine-producing centre. Walking trails through vineyards and forest are ten minutes away, as is the town of Colmar. Forty-five minutes to the International Basel/Mulhouse Airport.

Eguisheim Green is a phenomenal property! I loved the combination of old (17th C old!) and new (up to date bathroom, flatscreen TV, induction stove). And, Katia was an amazing hostess. When I called to say that my train was running a bit late, she offered to pick me up at the train station. On the other end of the trip, when I was having issues finding a taxi company that could take me to the Colmar station on a Sunday, she offered to drive to me to the train station. She also took me shopping the first day. We're both vegetarians and she warned me that I would have nothing to eat in Germanic, heavily meat oriented, Eguisheim. So, we went to a supermarket in Colmar to pick up supplies. Katia was enormously responsive whenever I had questions and even helped me to find a place where I could rent a bike since I chose to do this stretch of the vacation without a car. Though I would have had more freedom to travel around the area had I rented a car, I did fine without. I went to Colmar by bus (it's also cheap and convenient by taxi....unless it's a Sunday, then you have to work a bit harder to find a cab) and I went on a couple of day trips on an electric bike. Super fun! As a wine lover, i was well situated in this wine growing region. In addition to biking around the area, I took walks in well marked paths and trials through the surrounding vineyards.
