This charming, beautifully renovated 19th century farmhouse is situated on picturesque sloping grounds with a private swimming pool, large lawn, and a garden with flowers and fruit trees. The front of the house is on one level, the back on two levels. Located forty miles north of Lyon between Macon and Villefranche, it is in the heart of France, a comfortable and friendly home base from which to take a variety of tours: to Geneva and the Alps (East), Jura (NE), Lyon and Vienne (South) Burgundy (North), or Beaujolais (West). The personable owners live a short walk away on the same property.  They offer interesting local tours and the possibility of catered meals on request.

Comfortably furnished and appointed, the open main floor living room has a stone floor, a Louis XIV stone fireplace, cheerful red walls, and comfortable seating. Rustic exposed wood beam ceilings throughout lend an authentic character to the home. The kitchen has all new appliances, wood cabinets, microwave, conventional oven, dishwasher, cook-top with stainless steel hood, and glass front upper cabinets. The master bedroom with queen bed on the main floor has an en-suite bath. A lovely open wood staircase leads to two bedrooms on the second floor, one with queen bed, the other with 2 twin beds with a shared second bath. Both modern baths have tile walls, toilets, sinks, and bathtubs with glass shower enclosures.

General amenities include washer/dryer, high-speed Internet connection, CD/DVD player, television with satellite dish with CNN and other English channels, ironing equipment, hair dryer, and two-car garage. Bicycles are available for your use. There is so much to do in the area that one stay is not enough, you’ll come back for more.

For those who are serious about starred restaurants, this is the region of world-renowned establishments such as Georges Blanc (15 minutes away), Lameloise (1 hour and 15 minutes), Bocuse (45 minutes) and Alain Chapel. In all of them atmosphere and service complement the food to create an unforgettable experience. The best French cuisine was born from those fertile plains of the Ain and Saône rivers. Besides poultry, crayfish, game, soft water fish and frogs from the many ponds, farms provide dairy and produce.

The famous vineyards of Bourgogne and Beaujolais and even Jura are never far. Lyon is known as “La Capitale de la Gastronomie”. When passing Lyon on the freeway between Paris and Marseille the roadside symbol of the city is a chef’s hat. Scenic helicopter rides are available for great views of the countryside as you head towards the Alps and Mont Blanc. Or drive to Genève or Annecy, lunch at the equally famous Auberge du Père Bise at Talloires. Lyon is 40 minutes by car, Paris an hour and a half by train.

Cluny with its prestigious Benedictine monastery founded in 910 is 40 minutes away. Explore Chateau de Cormatin with its rich, early-17th century interior with period furniture, paintings and tapestries. Visit Pérouges, an authentic medieval village, the setting of many historical films. Locally there are tennis courts, golf courses, ancient churches and antique shops that still contain treasures. Hiking trails are nearby and bicycles available for guests’ use.

General Location Map

We really loved the Ferme! Our son and daughter-in-law were with us for most of the time and really enjoyed it as well. We liked being in the country for the scenery, walking opportunities, and the charming near-by small towns offering fun markets and very good traiteurs  and pizza. The house was great with everything we could want. The hosts were very accommodating. The only drawback was the weak Wi-Fi in the house; we had to go to the hosts’ house.  We didn’t use the pool, but that would certainly be an attraction for most people in season. Besides long walks and excursions in the towns, we visited a goat farm and watched the goats being milked—lots of fun! Great stay and marvelous food in the area.
