This gorgeous 18th century mas sits on 34 acres of land in the heart of the Vaucluse department of Provence, just upstream from the lovely  town of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue.  Carefully restored by architects in 2003, Ferme de L'Isle features elegant moorish-style décor, beautiful grounds with a pool, and an exceptional level of quality and taste both indoors and out for a family reunion or group getaway.

Just a five minute drive from town, Ferme de L'Isle has a peaceful, secluded feel. Majestic plane trees dominate the front terrace area and provide shaded seating near the large swimming pool.
The main area of the interior is a spacious converted barn with wide ceiling beams and earthenware tile floors.  French country antiques and a comfortable sofa are situated around a massive traditional stone fireplace.  Adjacent to this main lounge space is the bright and expansive kitchen/dining room, with windows overlooking the grounds.  Equipped for large parties, the kitchen features brand new appliances, a large tiled island for cooking and gathering, and a round table seating up to ten.  The huge master suite on this floor looks out to the terraces and pool in front of the house as well as the serene countryside behind. A fireplace, king-sized bed and en-suite bathroom with shower and tub complete the suite.  Also on this floor is a music room with a piano, hi-fi stereo, satellite tv, dvd player and sofa, and a laundry room with two washing machines, dryer and dishwasher.

The second floor and mezzanine level are comprised of four more bedrooms, each appointed with quality furnishings and fine Egyptian cotton linens and dressed in rich, warm colors.  The grand master bedroom, with soaring ceilings and French doors to a balcony overlooking the grounds,  is furnished with a king-size bed and features an en-suite bath with tub/shower and dressing room.  A mezzanine level, up a ladder-like staircase, has a bedroom with two twin beds and an en suite shower room.  Another bedroom has three twin beds, making it an excellent room for children, and the fourth has two large twins that may be placed together to form a king.  Both of these rooms share direct access to a bathroom with shower and tub.  Please note:  as the staircase is steep, these rooms may be better suited to older children or teenagers.

The expansive natural grounds, cut through by the Sorgue river, include a large dining area shaded by huge sycamores. Hammocks and comfortable lounge furniture inspire true relaxation on breezy summery afternoons, or guests may choose to try their hand at a game of pétanque in the shaded court. At nearly 60 feet long, the pool is great for laps or fun splashing. There are plenty of quality chaises longues and tables for sunbathing and relaxing with a cool drink. Adjacent poolhouse is equipped with refrigerator, dishwasher and barbecue, shower and WC. Beyond the house limits are forests and fields of wheat and poppies and wildflowers.

The house is a five minute drive or fifteen-minute walk to the "island city" of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, through which the river Sorgue runs in multiple beds and canals, with little bridges and ancient moss-covered water wheels contributing to the town's picturesque charm.  Historically the water wheels supported local silk and paper industries, evidence of which is still present in the town's many fabric and textile artisans.  With over three hundred permanent antique dealers and second-hand shops and two yearly antique fairs that have given L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue an international reputation, the city is a haven for shoppers.  Markets are Thursday and Sundays, and flea markets almost every weekend.   25 minutes from Avignon and 30 minutes to St. Remy.  Minutes away from the prettiest villages of the Lubéron.
