Haut de Cagnes

Description Amenities In the area Reviews
This 500-year-old stone house is located in the heart of Haut de Cagnes, a medieval hilltop village overlooking the Mediterranean. Although ancient in look and atmosphere, the home itself is very comfortable and features many modern amenities.

Its historic roots are evident in the ancient exposed beam ceilings, tile floors, and 16th century fireplaces. An enclosed private terrace with barbeque reflects the region’s tropical setting with plantings of orange, banana, olive and palm trees. Off the terrace through large arched double doors, the spacious living room has several large windows, a comfortable couch, and new TV with DVD player. The dining room features another stone fireplace, large dining table, and open archway. Even the kitchen has character with white plaster walls, tile floor, and tile and wood counters. The modern fixtures include a double sink, dishwasher, gas cook top, electric oven, toaster oven, microwave and washer/dryer. There is a half-bath on the main floor. The bedroom on this floor has a separate entrance, two long single beds and an en-suite bath.

On the second floor, both the master suite and the guest bedroom have ancient exposed beam ceilings, tile floors and natural light from large windows. The 320 sq. ft. master suite has a sitting area with red sofa, comfortable queen size four-poster bed, and private bath with tub and hand held shower. The second upstairs bedroom has a double bed and en suite bath. Two-car garage.

Perched on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, this picturesque medieval village has ancient stone ramparts, cobblestone alleys, and the impressive Grimaldi chateau, built for the family that rules Monaco. This castle is now a museum, with frescos, art exhibitions, and views from the tower. Steeped in eight centuries of history, the village has been home to many historic figures, including Renoir, Modigliani, and the Grimaldi family. Within a five minute walk of the home, there are dozens of restaurants and convenient shops. Cross the border into Italy and experience the great markets in San Reno, Bordighera, and Ventimiglia where vendors offer everything from fresh-roasted chestnuts to luxury furs, cashmere, and designer knock-offs.
