Located on beautiful grounds dotted with cypresses and surrounded by vineyards, this 8,600 sq. ft. farmhouse is extremely rich in history, as illustrated by its medieval architecture. Parts of the house date back to the 14th century when it was the farmhouse of a chateau that was burnt down in retaliation by the Duke of Rohan during a conflict between Catholics and Protestants. The simple and graceful structure of the house is enhanced by exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings, making it cool in summer and warm in winter. The beautiful pool is lined with Moroccan tiles and is well lit at night.

The house encompasses three stories.  A regal stairwell entrance, from a lovely stone courtyard, leads up to a wide hallway on the first floor where a dining room for twelve sits beneath an impressive medieval vaulted ceiling.  From here a large window offers a view of the pretty pool.  In the sitting room, an eclectic assemblage of furnishings includes turn-of-the century sofa, armchairs, ottoman and grand piano.  The separate television room is adorned with Moroccan-style pillows and artifacts.  The kitchen is equipped with a gas range, dishwasher, tile counters, oven and microwave.  A terrace off of the kitchen offers lovely views of surrounding vineyards.

On the second floor is a huge master bedroom with high, beamed ceilings, a fur-covered king size bed,  interesting circular sofa, and tiled floor. From this room a spiral staircase leads down to a spectacular bathroom with hexagonal bathtub, jacuzzi, sauna, shower cabin and toilet. Also on the second level in another wing is an elegant suite with bedroom including double bed, sitting room and bathroom with shower and toilet. It opens to a terrace facing south. Two more bedrooms, each with a double bed,  share another attractive full bathroom with tub and toilet.  The fifth bedroom has a petite double bed with a memory foam mattress, adjacent shower room and toilet. More bedrooms for children may be opened and made available upon request.

A spiral staircase to the third story leads to a wonderful retreat, a sunny tower room with great views of the countryside. Central heating. Telephone.
  • Beautiful Moroccan-tiled pool
  • Private, verdant grounds
  • Medieval architecture and eclectic décor
  • Jacuzzi and sauna
  • Sunny crow's nest with country views
Situated between Montpellier and Nîmes, the house is a short distance to many of the wonderful sights in the Languedoc Roussillon region.  The village of St. Guilhem-le-Desert, considered one of the most beautiful in France, is a great morning or afternoon excursion, and may include a hike up to the beautiful ruined castle perched high above the town.  The sweet shady village of Marsillargues has a lovely Renaissance chateau to visit, and the Source Perrier in Vergeze may be an interesting excursion for those fans of the eau gazeuse!
The youthful, vibrant city of Montpellier has an abundance of interesting cultural events, museums and churches, shopping and nightlife, or simply stroll through its parks or people watch from one of the many cafes lining the Place de la Comedie and the Place Jean-Jaures.  The slightly quieter Nimes, to the northeast, represents both ancient history with its lovely Roman ruins and contemporary Provencal culture.
We have just finished up a lovely week at Domaine de Favas. Thank you once again for your excellent service and information about these properties. I always worry that there is some detail I’ve missed, but each time, the property exceeds expectation.
