Description Amenities In the area Reviews
This original Provençal mansion, built around 1850, features great comfort and ornate, eclectic décor in a lush, park-like setting.  Only steps from local shops in the quiet market town of Marsillargues, yet entirely private, set on two and a half acres of fenced land, the property provides generous accomodation for a very large family or two families vacationing together.   Grounds include a swimming pool, tennis court, aviary with peacocks, geese and doves, a small pond, and an expansive outdoor dining room and lounge area under beautiful mature trees.

Built on two floors and encompassing over 8,600 square feet, the house features tiled roofs, stone walls, and painted wood shutters.  Entered directly from the street, with a parking area to the side of the house, the ground level includes a main entrance, hallway, huge sitting room, dining room and billiards room. The rustic  kitchen is very amply equipped for a large party, including a dining table to seat 14, pantry, two refrigerators, Bosch dishwasher, four ceramic electric burners, electric oven, two gas burners, and microwave.  At one end of the kitchen a charming settee faces the huge fireplace.  There are three bedrooms on this ground floor.  Across from the billiards room, one has a large double bed and an en suite bathroom with shower,  and at the pool end of the house, a suite of two bedrooms, one with a large double bed and one with a large single bed, shares a bathroom with double sink, tub and sauna.
Stairs from the main entrance access the second floor where a hallway joins two suites of bedrooms. To the right of the stairwell, the larger suite has a total of five bedrooms of varying size, two of which are furnished with a queen size bed and their own bathroom  (one with full bath, one with a shower and a view of the garden). The three smaller, adjacent bedrooms include one full bed, two twins and a large single bed.  At the other end of this floor is a large sitting room (the "Chinese" room, named such for its antique décor) that includes TV, CD player, a study with two twin beds and a desk, and three more bedrooms, two of which have double beds and are joined by a bathroom with shower, and one with a large single.  There is one additional bathroom in this suite, with tub, WC and bidet.  In all, the house contains a total of five double beds, one queen bed, two wide single beds and four regular single beds.

Other amenities include a washer and dryer, cable television, fax machine, telephone, grand piano, sauna, electronic gate, and parking spaces. Maid service available upon request.

Located in the heart of the small town of Marsillargues, in the Montpellier region, this home is steps to the town’s supermarket, two restaurants, one pizzeria, four bakeries and five bars.  Also in town is a lovely Renaissance church.  There are open markets in Marsillargues on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In the nearby picturesque village of Sommières and in  Lunel markets are on Sunday mornings.  Lunel, about 3.5 kilometers from Marsillargues, has a Tourist Office. Nimes and Montpellier are both about sixteen miles away. The truly impressive Pont du Gard, a + 2000-year-old Roman bridge and aqueduct, is less than an hour's drive away, as is the town of Nimes, known for its beautifully preserved Roman buildings. The Roman Via Domita, a 2000-year-old roman road that parallels the auto-route, has archeological excavations open to the public.  La Petite Camargue, a beautiful nature preserve, renowned for its varied flora and fauna including pine forests, wild white horses and pink flamingos is a favorite destination.  Further south, about 25 miles, the historic town, Saintes- Maries-de-la-Mer, is surrounded by white sandy beaches and dunes.  La Grande-Motte is the closest beach, only 5 miles away.  Carcassonne, the famous medieval walled city, is a 2-hour drive from Marsillargues.
