Originally a farm building from the 17th century, now a spacious and beautiful home, here is an idyllic vacation spot for a large party of friends. Located deep in the pastoral wine country of southwestern France, the property is part of a tiny hamlet outside a larger village. With its verdant setting, 10' x 20' swimming pool, and several furnished outdoor patios, Dordogne Farmhouse invites guests to bask in the unspoiled natural landscape. You will love experiencing the sweet country pleasures of this wonderful vacation rental in the Dordogne region.

The house benefits from a thorough renovation and an exceptionally tasteful and refined interior décor. Traditional elements such as massive wood beams, thick stone walls, and terra cotta tile floors create an appealingly rustic environment, enhanced by modern lighting and brightly colored linens. High-quality contemporary appliances and fixtures provide guests with a superior level of modern comfort and convenience. Several of the rooms feature views of the neighboring vineyards and sunflower fields.

On the ground floor, the bright and airy country kitchen opens directly onto a tiled terrace. Equipped with generous teak and marble counters, a four-burner gas stove, full-size oven, dishwasher, and high end cookware, the kitchen is a delightful space in which to cook meals with the delectable food products of the region.  An antique dining table seats up to eight. Just outside, the wisteria-covered terrace is equipped with dining furniture for taking meals outdoors when the days and nights grow warm. In chillier seasons, guests can cozy up on sofas around the large stone fireplace in the livingroom, or enjoy a game of chess in the office/game room.

Upstairs, four bedrooms are situated around a central sitting area. Cheery and comfortable, the bedrooms are simply decorated and furnished with two twin beds that may be combined to form a queen. Each has an ensuite bath with shower.

The nearest village, Eymet, is a "bastide" or fortified town that dates back to the 12th century. A five-minute drive from the house, Eymet has grocery stores, restaurants and cafés,  an international newsstand, extraordinary 14th-century castle ruins, and a Thursday weekly market that's been going on since the year 1270!
This region is known as "Périgord Pourpre", or Purple Perigord, named so for its myriad vineyards and wineries. Visit one of the numerous local caves and châteaux to taste the prize-winning wines of Bergerac, and St. Emilion; a drive along the "route des vins" will take you past numerous picturesque villages and their wine estates. The 16th century Château de Monbazillac is particularly elegant, as is the sweet wine made there.

General Location Map

We had a wonderful time at the Dordogne farmhouse. It is located in the extreme south of the Périgord region, a nice 30 minute walk to the village of Eymet, known for its beautiful and typical “Bastide” town created in the 13th century. The farmhouse, grange and grounds are extremely spacious. Each in our group of 16 settled quickly and comfortably, with practically no argument, and there was even some spare room. Each bedroom has its own full bathroom, pleasantly decorated and ideally practical. There are 2 large kitchens, and plenty of seating outside and inside. Everything is clean and well maintained. The swimming pool was perfect for cooling off after a day of Périgord discovery, relaxing and taking in the serene and verdant landscape. The countryside is fabulous, hilly, green and sunny, home of some of the most stunning historical treasures and picturesque villages in France. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wholeheartedly recommend this property. Marie France I. Seattle, Aug 2013
