Located in a picturesque hilltop village in southwestern France, this rustic home was originally a blacksmith compound.  Its exact age is uncertain, but a forge existed on the site in 1337.  Today, Villa La Forge provides comfortable and spacious accommodations, best suited to families or groups of friends looking for a relaxing vacation in a lesser-known part of France.

The house is furnished throughout with lovely French country antiques.  Colorful linens and prints adorn the thick stone walls; massive exposed beams and original patterned floor tiles indicate the ancient history of the building.

On the ground floor, the living room features a large stone fireplace where the forge once stood. The room is furnished with a mix of French antiques. Library of useful local and regional guides; French TV and VDR; access to the courtyard through French doors.
The dining room shares another traditional country fireplace with the kitchen. Generously equipped, the open kitchen has a dishwasher, washer and dryer, assorted pots and pans, dishes, silverware, wine glasses, appliances, linens and regional cookbooks.

Just outside the living room, there is a covered terrace and a private brick courtyard, perfect for warm weather dining or relaxing in the hot tub after a full day of sightseeing.  Roses, wisteria and other flowering plants adorn the pretty enclosed space, turning it into your own "secret garden".

The master bedroom, on the ground level, is furnished with a king-size bed; an adjacent bathroom has a large walk-in shower, bathtub, two sinks and toilet.
Upstairs, guests can admire views of patchwork rolling hills. Four additional bedrooms share a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.  Three of the bedrooms are furnished with queen-size beds and one has three singles.  There are sofa beds in the living room and kitchen.
Every room in La Forge has electric heat.
TV & VCR, plus access to high-speed internet for guests who bring their laptops. Phone available for local calls only.

Quaint and charming Montpezat has a bakery, grocery store, post office, restaurant, an English-speaking doctor, a 12th century cathedral and extensive walking trails through lush forests.  This hilltop bastide, or fortified town,  is a wonderful place to savor the rich history, sights and culinary delights of the fertile Lot-et-Garonne region. The quiet agricultural region is best suited to relaxing rather than stimulating vacations.

There is much to see and do in this beautiful area, rich in history and still relatively free of tourists. You will delight in exploring its Romanesque architecture, hilltop bastides, ancient villages, impressive châteaux, and canals along the river Lot. Local delicacies include marvelous prunes from the nearby town of Agen, foie gras, duck, walnuts and truffles, as well as Armagnac eau-de-vie and the wines of Gascony, Bergerac and Cahors.
